Barber Cut-Off

The Greenwood Cultural Center has scheduled its “Boys, Books, Barbers & Backpacks” Barber Cut-Off for Sunday, August 13th from 8:00am to 12:00pm.

Boys in grades K-8th grade will receive a free haircut from one of Tulsa’s talented local barbers.  In addition, they will receive free refreshments during the event, a backpack with school supplies and a book.  We anticipate serving nearly 800 boys.

By providing free haircuts, we hope to increase their confidence and self-esteem and provide a valuable service to parents.  By providing free books, we hope to promote reading and literacy skills, which is of high concern for the community. Seventy-seven (77%) of students in North Tulsa are not reading at grade level. Our desire to impact this staggering statistic is imperative to the future of our community.

The event is sponsored in collaboration with Maximum Cut, Virgil King, Oklahoma Eagle, Virgin Street Church of Christ, Tracye Love-Chandler, Love & Associates Wellness Services and Teach Not Punish.
